I have posted a letter applying for a president position for an engineering chapter at my school. Please help me make it perfect!
I am running for the presidential position of the University of Nevada, Reno Tau Beta Pi Chapter. After studying and working for the past few years on my engineering degree, I am convinced that Tau Beta Pi is an excellent engineering organization. Experiencing numerous engineering clubs/groups and discussing with other students, I am confident that Tau Beta Pi has the best framework and harmony for a presidential position.
I am a junior studying geological engineering here at the University of Nevada, Reno. Studying and researching for long hours, I am happy to be accepted to Tau Beta Pi for it has shown my hard work and potential. I plan to continue these attributes, as I would like to further the chapter into the next few years as its president. I have just began my college career, but I have already published a paper, joined the Dean’s List, engaged in research opportunities within geophysics/geological engineering, and so much more. I am currently helping with a geothermal prospect at the Astor Pass Project at Pyramid Lake. I hope to make it an energy resource for all Nevadans surround the area. I passionately study and work in engineering because I will offer the world amazing technology and research in the near future. My interests are in the field of energy whether it be oil, geothermal, or something still yet to be discovered. I want to solve the energy crisis that the world faces, and Tau Beta Pi can advance my career to that position.
My academic career is incredibly important to me, but so is fly-fishing. I fish like a mad-dog. I have spent many days on the rivers and lakes as well at the desk tying my own flies. I constantly design new flies to mimic the bugs and bait in the surrounding waters of Nevada. True, every once in a while I get skunked, but thank heaven the store is only right down the road to ease the pain. Pretty much every fisherman has to hunt to keep sane. I chukar hunt a lot with my pops too during the colder months mostly because standing outside in the Truckee during the river while its snowing is not so appealing. I know, surprising. I have fortunately found that time management is an essential need for the outdoors as well as engineering.
I have found volunteering a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community in my free time. I have helped with many river restorations, fishing derbies, and other fishy avenues. Fishing has helped me through rough times and has produced many memories. I always think giving back to the passion I have loved so much to be rewarding. My volunteering has served me well so far and I would like to carry this aspect into Tau Beta Pi because I am sure it will be just as rewarding.
I have attached a simple picture of my love for fishing if you’d like to see it. I thank you all for taking time to consider me as your president. I look forward to being your president and your friend.
OK…….I would like a little better answer than that.
Too long, cut it in half to make more succinct. Nobody wants to read long-winded personal statements.
