The following is an excerpt from the book "Rainbow Views - A History of Wayne County" (1953), compiled by Ann Snow :

“As you come over the mountains south on highway 24, suddenly you see a green valley, sheltered in the east by the lofty thousand lake mountain range and on the south by the stalwart boulder and parker. The beautiful red rock church catches your eye. Its tall copper spire glistening in the sun. Your cares evaporate, your exhaustion dissipates, and you are reminded of the words in the song “there will be peace in the valley tonight”. There before you lies Loa, the gateway to our county and the county seat.

“The evidence of the joy the people of Loa take in their surrounding areas is seen by the abundance of travel trailers, jeeps, and pleasure boats parked in their yards. After all, they are only ten minutes from the best hunting and fishing in the world. The people are well informed of current events and have a sense of true values. They are not so much interested or impressed with how much you have as with what kind of person you are.”
